School board votes to keep GHS open; other schools to close

In a unanimous vote May 9, the Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) board of trustees voted to keep Greenville High School (GHS) open, with current staff levels. The decision was later clarified as the discussion of whether or not to integrate with Plumas Charter School was addressed.

While GHS will remain open next year, the board also voted to move forward with the steps necessary to integrate the high school with Plumas Charter School.

Taylorsville Elementary School (TES) suffered a different fate than GHS. In a 3-2 vote, the board decided to close the Taylorsville site and consolidate all Indian Valley elementary students to one site, Greenville Elementary School.

Like TES, Pioneer Elementary School in Quincy also received a closure vote. In a 4-1 vote, the board of trustees opted to close the Pioneer site despite concerns about the Quincy Elementary School boiler.

Why do we need a school board when all they're doing is closing schools??? What is they're purpose?

It's been a long, contentious road, but credit where it's due- thank you. You have a very difficult job that never pleases everyone.

Thanks for keeping GHS open another year. There's much to be done, I realize, but this step will keep the door open. For that, many are grateful.

If the environmentalst wacko's would let the FS log more they schools would be doing a lot better as some of the money goes to schools in roads in the area.

I dont understand how they can just close these schools. If we dont have the money stop hiring new teachers, and stop spending it on little things, and put the money towards the schools like its suppose to. Our children's education is more important.

Since Taylorsville apparently no longer yields significant small school funding, it only seems logical and fiscally sound to close it.

Who will come to a county that has such difficulty with education? I've seen lots of small towns loose their identity and it all starts with the schools. No schools, no new families.
