Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club
The winning scores were very close last week. The Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club played a team “Two Best Balls” game. The first place winners with a score of 125 were Cheryl Brennan, Holly Anderson, Dink Rife and Judy Porep-Lullo. With a score of 126 the second place team was comprised of Kathy Sipel, Alaine Flynn, Diane Trainor and Gail Arterburn. Jacquie McMaster, Barbara Crist, Dee Walker and Jay Fisher took third place with a score of 127.
Jacquie McMaster, Barbara Crist, Jay Fisher, Debbie Peterson, Wanda Wideriksen, Judy Porep-Lullo and Susie Wiese had chip-ins.
May 24 had a small turnout of women as there was a competing tournament being played. The nine women played a “scratch three” format where they were allowed to throw out their three worst holes and deduct half their handicap.
Dink Rife won the Combo Flight with a net score of 60. Cheryl Brennan won the Red Flight with a net score of 59. She also shot a personal best gross score of 93. Congratulations, Cheryl! Tied for second in the Red Flight were Ellen Fearing and Carol Miller with net scores of 63.5. The winners all played very well on this ladies day.
Lake Almanor Women’s Golf Club
We had our first game of the season May 24. It was great to see everyone again. Our weather was a little breezy and cool, which made us all play a little faster than usual. Our game was “Low Net & Low Putts.” Kathy Shennan won first place for low putts, and Betty Duncan and Karen Nelson tied for second.
Kathy Shennan also won the pot for least putts (30). Four of our members went down to Chico to play at Canyon Oaks Country Club’s “Friends & Guests” tournament and came in second place in the first flight. Way to go girls. They were Sharon Auge, Carolyn Willhoit, Julie Azevedo and Pat Drake.
Our annual invitational golf event is scheduled for Aug. 16 this year. The theme is “Putting on the Glitz.” This is really going to be a lot of fun.
I will keep all of you lady golfers posted as we progress in our planning; don’t miss out. It is open to 54 golfers, so contact either Julie at 259-2315 or Sharon at 259-3497 with any questions you might have. See all of you next week.
Mt. Huff Golf
A little breezy and a little cool, but there was a great turnout for the Mt. Huff Wednesday Morning Scramble May 23.
Three teams made the grade. In first place was the team of Leo Sorosinski, Dick Grace, Greg Stevens and John Hackett.
Second place honors went to the team of Don Sheffield, Darel Joseph, Jerry Quam and Norm Miller.
In third place was the team of Loren Lindner, Gary Metzdorf, Mike Ingle and Don McConnell.
Our two chip-in champs were Greg Stevens and Don Sheffield.
Closest to the pin honor went to Mike Ingle.
Whitehawk Ranch Ladies Golf Club
On Tuesday, May 22, the Whitehawk Ranch Ladies Golf Club had a Play Day for those ladies not involved in the Eclectic Tournament with Graeagle Meadows, Plumas Pines and Whitehawk Ranch. The “game” was “Best Gross Ball plus Best Net Ball” per team.
The winning team consisted of Jean Haaf, Chris Hyatt, Laurie McKenzie and Cassie McNamara. Birdies were made by Chris Hyatt, Cassie McNamara and Lynn Smith. The big money payout was in the ongoing “chip-In” competition, which had been carried over since last year. Chris Hyatt won $45 with a great little chip-in on hole No. 16 — Congrats, Chris!
On another note, we were so glad to see Denise Stein, WHRLGC captain, out on the course for the first time this season. She has been battling a severe case of “shingles” for the past six weeks. Her latest mantra is “get those shingles shots, ladies!” Happy golfing …
