Making Strides Against Breast Cancer canceled due to fire

The American Cancer Society announced Aug. 15 that due to the current devastating fire situation in Plumas County, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) Lake Almanor Walk, planned for Aug. 25, is canceled.

“The most important concern is the safety of residents, cancer patients, survivors and caregivers,” said Lisa Phillips, Chester resident and volunteer event chairwoman.

“The danger of the fire and smoke is too great to risk the health and well-being of our devoted MSABC walkers.

“I also want to acknowledge the continued support of Seneca Healthcare District and the hospital staff,” Phillips said. “We make a good team!”

A “virtual” Making Strides event will continue through online fundraising at http://makingstrides.acsevents.org/lakealmanor.

Check donations can be mailed to Making Strides of Lake Almanor, 1165 East Avenue, Suite 100 Chico, CA 95926. Any cash donations can be dropped off at a soon-to-be-announced location in Chester.

All donations received from MSABC events will go towards breast cancer research, education, patient services and advocacy. These donations help the society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
