Convicted murderer Loren Herzog found dead

Killer Loren Herzog — serving parole in a trailer on state property outside the fences at High Desert State Prison in Susanville — is dead, according to a report from News10KXTV.

The television station reports Herzog was found dead around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Public Information Officer Terry Thornton.

According to the station’s report, Thornton said the parole agency supervising Herzog was alerted when his GPS device had a low battery. When officials checked on Herzog at his trailer just outside of the High Desert State Prison property, they found him hanging. Thornton said no suicide note was found at the location.

Herzog was convicted of taking part in the murders of three people, but a judge ruled Herzog's rights were violated during police interviews, and his sentence of 78 years was greatly reduced.

CDCR released Herzog to serve his parole in Susanville in September 2010.
