Forest Service burning slash piles north of Chester

The Almanor Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest is burning slash piles north of Chester today. These "grapple piles" are made with heavy equipment and tend to be larger than hand piles and typically produce more smoke. Smoke may be visible in the Almanor Basin.
The Almanor Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest has the following plans for pile burning:
  • Project Name: Warner Grapple Piles
  • Descriptive Location: Unit is approximately 5 miles NW of the town of Chester
  • Legal Location: T29N/R6E/Sec 15
  • Total acreage: 82 acres
  • Planned Ignition: Thursday, November 10th
  • Duration of ignition & smoke production: 1 day
  • Estimated direction of smoke travel: Southwest, west
  • Communities or Smoke Sensitive Areas: Willow Creek & Feather River Homesites; smoke may be visible from the Almanor Basin
