Plumasnews.com and Lassennews.com victims of massive hack attack

Feather Publishing
9/26/2011

The server that hosts lassennews.com and plumasnews.com websites was hacked early Sunday morning, Sept. 25, 2011.

At this time both websites have been fully restored from a backup.

Websites hosted on InMotion Hosting network were hacked by a hacker named TiGER-M@TE, including the websites of Feather Publishing.

It was not just a server hack, but apparently the whole data center was hacked. The hacker claims this attempt was to set a world record for largest number of sites hacked at once, claiming over 700,000. Google, Apple, Yahoo, Microsoft, Bing, Airtel, American Express, Nokia and thousands of others have been the victims of this hacker in the past.

The hacker conducted a website defacement attack, but the hack was not a targeted attack specifically against Feather Publishing.

The page had no apparent functionality and appeared to be more of a calling-card, aimed at increasing the notoriety of the hacker, rather than to launch any kind of malicious attack on the end-user.

The internal servers, data and emails of Feather Publishing Co. Inc. were not compromised during the attack.
