Burn ban rescinded

10/12/2010

Effective Friday, Oct. 8 at 8 a.m., the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Lassen-Modoc-Plumas Unit has rescinded the suspension on all burning on State Responsibility Area Lands within Lassen, Modoc and Plumas Counties.  Burn permits are not required until May 1, 2011.

Following are some important things to remember regarding residential burning:

•Residents may be held civilly and criminally liable for any fires that escape their control.

•Burning can only be done on permissive burn days. To find out if it is a permissive burn day, contact your local Air Pollution Control District (APCD).

  •Lassen County -252-4247

  •Modoc County -233-5522

•Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District (includes Chester, Quincy and Plumas County) -289-3662

•Only natural vegetative material such as leaves, pine needles and tree trimmings may be burned.

•Household garbage may not be burned.

•Do not burn on windy days.

•You cannot burn in a burn barrel unless you live in an area where it is permissible.  Contact your APCD to determine if you live in one of these areas.

•You do not need a burn permit until May 1, 2011.

For more information on debris burning, contact your local fire department or visit the Cal Fire website at fire.ca.gov.
