  • School board resignation: Bob Tuerck resigned, saying he has accepted a job for the California School Board Association.
  • Railroad Days revival: Organizers say the annual festival in Portola was a great success, with attendance estimated at about 2,000 people.

Wildfire threatens Belden

Smoke spiraling up from the south bank of the Feather River marks a fire just east of Belden. The blaze was noted about 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, and Forest Service fire crews quickly responded. By 3 p.m. most of the flames were knocked down and crews were mopping up. Cause of the fire is suspected to be an unattended brush-burn that was fanned by heavy winds. A couple of outbuildings were destroyed along with some acreage. Photo By Will Farris
