Annual Plumas County Picnic

Feather Publishing
5/28/2010

A Plumas County tradition for many years the Plumas County Picnic makes its annual appearance June 5. This old-fashioned get together sets rural communities apart from their city cousins. The Plumas County picnic has been nothing more than a party for the residents of the county.

Visitors will find food provided by local vendors, displays from local businesses, entertainment by local groups, a car show by the local club and lots of sun and fresh air.

The centerpiece of the picnic for many years has been the fabulous car show put on by the Sierra Cascade Streetrodders. Members show of their machines and skills throughout the day.

June 5 is also 4H Showmanship Day when club members show off their animals and work on their presentations.

There will be dancing and singing in the Tulsa Scott Building and all sorts of fun activities for the whole family.

The annual electronic recycling day at the Fairgrounds will be June 4 – 5. Folks can drop off their unwanted electronics right by the front gate at no charge. Old computers, monitors, TVs, cell phones and stereo equipment are all welcome for recycling.

Kitchen appliances, batteries, light bulbs or paint are not allowed.

There are a couple of new events happening on County Picnic Day as well. The wildly popular Plumas Mudslingers will be in action at 1 p.m. in Serpilio Hall. The local roller derby team put on a great show last month and is coming back for more.

Tickets will be available around town or at the door.

June 5 will also be the first annual Plumas Sierra Classic Horse Show that will kick off the night before with food and live music in Old Town.

The Elks will celebrate their annual Graffiti Night Friday as well at the fairgrounds. In the past, that event was held at the lodge, but has outgrown that location.

Finally, Saturday night features one of the biggest races of the year for the American Valley Speedway. This is a great way to kick off the summer season, Plumas County style!
