Wildwood common areas may be turned to residences
Community Development Commission Executive Director David Keller recently told his board of commissioners some of the large common rooms at Wildwood Village, located in downtown Chester, would probably be turned into living spaces to make the project more affordable.
CDC Finance Director Tom Yagerhofer said the study showed there was only a small difference, but the remodeling was a better deal.
Chester commissioner Sherrie Thrall said, “It breaks my heart to see those beautiful common rooms go after all the time and effort we spent.”
Keller agreed the change would require a mindset adjustment.
Thrall said, “The benefit of having the subsidized housing for low-income seniors and disabled people is so huge I think it outweighs the heartbreak.”
The additional housing units will bring in revenue and will break up large open spaces, lowering the electric bills.
