These are a few of the stories you will find in this week's printed newspaper:

  • Townhalls attract crowds: Assemblyman Brian Dahle and Sen. Ted Gaines met with constituents in Quincy and Chester during a three-meeting swing through Plumas and Lassen counties.
  • New leader: After nearly three decades, the Plumas County Mental Health Commission has a new leader. Supervisor Kevin Goss was named to replace Hank Eisenmann.
  • Home away from home: As of last week, new homes had been found for all of the patients at Quincy Nursing & Rehabilitation and most had already moved.

Shanghai Shindig to end winter with a colorful, cosmopolitan adventure

Feather Publishing
2/19/2010

Residents and visitors are invited on an adventure of the senses Saturday, March 27, at the Shanghai Shindig in Greenville.

Renowned Chinese chef Peter Chu of Redding and locally renowned dessert chef Marty Shower will provide adventures for palates.

Volunteers will transform the town hall into a venue befitting the cosmopolitan theme, and servers will enhance that feeling with their colorful far-eastern costumes.

Shindig sports enthusiasts will be especially pleased with some of the auction items, which include signed Raiders helmets, guided fishing, hunting and birding trips, and tickets to sporting events.

Other items include overnight stays and dinners, antiques, furniture, artwork, a year’s worth of desserts, a fully catered dinner for six to eight people, and other items.

Beverages and hors d'oeuvres will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and dessert at 6:30 p.m. and a live auction at 7:30 p.m.

The event is a fund-raiser for the Indian Valley Community Center, where an open house that same day, from 2-5 p.m., will provide residents with an opportunity to see what’s left to do before the grand opening in June.

The center is located on Highway 89 in Greenville, across from the Sierra Sunrise Coffee House and Deli.

Shanghai Shindig tickets are available at the balloon and video counter of Evergreen Market in Greenville, at Young’s Market in Taylorsville and at Pangaea in Quincy.
