Fly-In Breakfast features free plane rides for kids

Feather Publishing

The Rotary Club of Portola hosts its annual Fly-In Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Nervino Airport in Beckwourth.

The breakfast is the club's largest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going toward college scholarships and community service projects.

Club members will serve pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee to an expected crowd of 600. The Rotary gin fizz booth will also be open. In addition to the all-you-can-eat breakfast, attendees will hear live music from the local band Code Bluegrass, view classic and antique cars and trucks and be able to take monster truck rides. The Reno British Car Club is also returning with a collection of MG sports cars.

New to the event this year is the Young Eagles Program. This program introduces young people ages 8 through 17 to aviation by giving them a free plane ride.

The ever-popular Rotary bounce house will also be set up for the kids.

There will be a giveaway with many great prizes and the Rotarians will be selling tickets for a 2014 Polaris ATV.

The cost of the event is $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.
