Forest Service responds to local lightning caused fires
As of 11:00 am, four small fires have occurred as a result of the 300 plus lightning strikes that hit the central/eastern Plumas NF yesterday afternoon and evening. The majority of the fires were less than a ¼ acre and were quickly contained. Precipitation was also scattered across the area.
Air reconnaissance is covering the area impacted by the lightning as a routine precaution. A fifth fire, about ½ acre, was just discovered as a result of this flight and firefighters have been dispatched. Additional firefighting resources are staged and available for any upcoming needs.
Scattered thunderstorms with sometimes heavy precipitation are forecast through the weekend.
