CSD board member resigns
Director Judy Yocum was missing from this month’s Indian Valley Community Service District meeting — and it wasn’t until the director’s reports that the public was told why.
Chairman Brad Smith read aloud Yocum’s resignation letter that stated she was on to “new endeavors that are both rewarding and appreciated.”
She said her reasons for leaving were personal and health issues, and resigned as of June 11.
After reading the letter, one community member in attendance asked if the board would be looking for a replacement director, and if so, how would they go about doing so.
Smith said they would be looking to appoint a replacement; however, he and the other board members didn’t say how it would be done.
Community member Dave Zappa asked if the board could even take action since Yocum’s resignation letter was not indicated on the agenda. Once again, board members didn’t have an answer.
According to Robert’s Rules of Order, every resignation must be put to a vote before it is accepted. In order to do so, the action item must be added to the agenda. With this being the case, a formal acceptance of Yocum’s resignation is not possible until it is agendized. How the board goes about filling the vacancy is determined by its bylaws.
No action was made during the June 11 meeting, and Smith said he and the board would have to research where to go from here.
