6/23/2010 -   American Valley Speedway has become a New Age Coliseum for motor sports. Modern gladiators drive redesigned chariots powered by engines equivalent to hundreds of horses around a 0.375 mile dirt oval track in Quincy. Only Calistoga has a longer track in California.

Mt. Huff
Mt. Huff has had a very busy week. On June 13, CASA held a very successful tournament with forty golfers. Everyone seemed to enjoy the course, the view and the food. We are open for tournaments whether for a cause or you just want a fun place to get your family together.

6/16/2010 -    Cody Anderson, the 6-foot, 4-inch pitcher who led Quincy High School’s baseball team to a section championship last year, was drafted in the 17th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
    Anderson was the 521st pick out of the 1,525 players selected in last week’s draft, which went 50 rounds over three days June 7-9.

Feather River
Fishing has been fair to good. Flying Ant pattern has produced fish at tail outs and back eddies. Yellow w/Red spotted Panther Martin hot lure. Camp Laymen and Nelson Point best bets.

Lake Davis

As of June 11, the fishing at lake Davis has been great for trolling. The best thing to use is still the #2 sockeye slammer, fire tiger. The depth that is working best is 8-12 ft. The best thing to use for shore fishing is worms and rainbow powerbait. Flyfishing has had its rewards with the J Fair olive wiggly tail. The average size is 14-15 in with an occasional 18-20 incher. The lake temp is at 59 degrees and is at 68 percent. Camp 5 has had a couple of bears hanging around so be careful.

Frenchman Lake
Weather is great and so is the fishing. A group from Sacramento caught their limit of rainbow trout using worms near Big Cove. Conner Gonzales of Reno, Nev., caught his limit at Crystal Point on worms. A pair of locals were stream fishing in Beckwourth and caught a four pound brown trout.

Lake Almanor
For bank fishing, try fishing the jetties in Prattville and the usual Hamilton Branch with SW10 Kastmasters or nightcrawlers and power bait. Crickets are working also catching browns and rainbows of decent size. Also, the dam might be a good spot.

For boat fishing, there are good reports from trollers taking fish with red/gold speedy shiners and various Rapalas. Add carp spit or trophy trout and go down 15 to 30 feet along the east or west shores for good size browns and rainbows. There are many excellent reports by the dam for salmon with anchovy tails with size 1 or 2 octopus hook a few cranks off the bottom. Smallmouth should start picking up as the weather improves at the points and dropoffs all around the lake with various rubber worms. Crickets on a size 10 baitholder with 3/0 split shot 12 inches from your hook.

For fly fishing, at Hamilton Branch use woolly buggers, at Almanor pond smelt and caddis, at Deer Creek try Cooper Johns, at Butt Lake streamer patterns and on Warner, Feather River use stoneflies.

On the rivers and streams try crickets, salmon eggs, worms and a panther martin.
