Football: J.D. Johnson

After being the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the Golden Eagles for one year, J.D. Johnson will be taking over as head coach for 2010.

Seventeen gals turned out July 15, for Best 9, our choice of front or back, using half-handicap.

First flight winners were Jo Knudson in second place and Julie Azevedo in first place.

Sally Weller was second in the second flight and Karen DeMoe came in first place.

It was a day of "O.N.E.S." at Whitehawk last Tuesday, which means that only the holes starting with one of those four letters, or half the holes, counted toward the game and each lady only received 50% of her handicap on those holes.

Virginia Luhring certainly helped herself and her partner Pamela Burke to their winning net 74. She shot a birdie on the par three-hole number eleven which gave her a net double eagle. Marcia Zeigler and Jill Zumwalt were team #2 with a net 75 and this was Mrs. Zumwalt's first day out with the Whitehawk ladies too. And Diane Romig and Denise Stein came in third with a net 76.

As for match play results, round 1 is now completed: Patty McNamara won her match against Lois LeGuennec; Denise Stein won her match against Marcia Zeigler; Cynthia Faulk won her match against Christy Randall and Lynn Smith won her match against Della Miller. The ladies must play both round 2 and round 3 of match play before the end of this month.
