“The best time to go fishing is when you can.”Ed Zern

My daughter, Meegan, recently bought her husband, Earl, a guided fishing trip from Lake Almanor Fly Fishing Company.

It was Earl’s birthday and Meegan has this wonderful knack for activity based gifts. (I’d love to talk about my “Cheese-Maker for a Day” Father’s Day gift a while back, but that doesn’t seem to fit here.)

I recommended they go stream fishing with a guide from the Almanor Fly Fishing Company in Chester.

It seemed like the perfect setup. Fall colors were at their prime. And the October caddis were hatching.

Another great golf season is about over. Some of the players have already started their seasonal migration south to warmer tees, fairways and greens. Those staying to guard the grounds are a hardy lot; they will have time to clean and polish their toys for next season. In addition, plans are already in the making to escape from the coming snows. So if interested in taking short golf outings keep in close contact with your players.

Wanted: rattlesnake wrangler

Question: Do you have a phone number for someone from Fish and Game to come get a rattlesnake out of my yard? I don’t want it killed.

Answer: Sorry, but Department of Fish and Game (DFG) staff will not come out to your house to remove or relocate rattlesnakes residing in your yard. However, if you can muster up the courage to deal with it yourself, you will not need a license to kill or trap it. If not, and you have no neighbors, friends or family members willing to help you move the rattlesnake, your best option will be to contact a professional pest control service to do it.
