With warm, sunny days followed by late-season snow storms, the variability of spring weather in the mountains makes it tricky for local golf courses to determine exactly when they will open for the season.
Most courses anticipate opening mid to late April and have set tentative dates to begin hosting golfers, but the golf pros are quick to point out that the dates are weather permitting.
Mt. Huff, the nine-hole, par-33 course located in Indian Valley, is the one course in Plumas County that is open year-round, weather permitting.
The three courses that are working toward opening next week are Plumas Pines, Lake Almanor Country Club and Graeagle Meadows.
Plumas Pines, the 18-hole, par-72 course on Poplar Valley Road in Graeagle, set its opening date for Tuesday, April 17.
Lake Almanor Country Club, the nine-hole, par-35 course on the Lake Almanor Peninsula, was originally hoping to be open this week, but now projects an April 18 start date.
Graeagle Meadows, the 18-hole, par-72 course on Highway 89 in Graeagle, plans to be open Thursday, April 19, or possibly earlier in the week.
Four more 18-hole courses will become available the following week.
Bailey Creek (par 72), Dragon at Nakoma (par 72), Whitehawk Ranch (par 71) and Grizzly Ranch (par 72) all have a projected opening date of Friday, April 27.
Bailey Creek is located at Lake Almanor, while Dragon at Nakoma, Whitehawk Ranch and Grizzly Ranch are located in Eastern Plumas County.
Feather River Park Resort, the nine-hole, par-35 course in Graeagle, is scheduled to open a few days later, May 1.
Lake Almanor West, the nine-hole, par-36 course on the west shore of Lake Almanor, could not be reached for its opening date.
Feather River Inn, the nine-hole, par-27 course on Highway 70 just west of Blairsden, is looking to open around the end of May.
