Big pot bust in Paxton
A routine probation check in Paxton turned into a major marijuana bust last week.
Plumas County sheriff’s deputies arrested Michael John Mondot, 44, of Paxton on multiple drug charges.
Mondot was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, conspiracy, and violating probation.
He was arrested Wednesday afternoon, July 27, and transferred to the Plumas County Jail where he is being held on $50,000 bail.
Mondot is the owner of the Paxton Lodge. John Edward Duncan, 46, who lives in a cabin near the lodge, was also arrested.
Plumas County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Peay said at least eight officers were involved in the bust.
He said 101 large marijuana plants were confiscated, along with more than 400 pounds of processed marijuana.
The processed marijuana was in the form of hash, bricks and kief (resin).
Peay said the marijuana was valued at “several hundred thousand dollars.”
“This was definitely a big bust,” Peay said. “This case stands out because (Mondot) was working under the guise of Prop. 215 (medical marijuana use and he went outside the parameters of his prescription.”
