Portola wrestlers make good showing

The Portola High School wrestling team traveled to Redding for the Mid Valley League Championships Saturday, Feb. 12.

Competing in seven of the 14 weight classes, the Portola wrestlers placed third overall in team standings.

Portola coach Jason Klemesrud described the outcome as “a huge victory in itself.”

Klint Williams, wrestling at 160 pounds for Portola, won first place and received a league championship award.

Likewise, Teila “Tae Tae” Pieler placed first in the heavyweights division to earn a league championship for the Tigers.

Portola’s Noah Vagliveilo, wrestling at 119 pounds, and Turtle Vagliveilo, competing at 130 pounds, each captured second place.

Mack Ammon claimed third place in the 171-pound division, and Chazz Riggs earned fourth at 189 pounds.

In junior varsity competition, Patrick Steffanic won first place for Portola in the 160-pound weight class.
