FRC Basketball defeats Redwoods, Championship game tonight

The Feather River College men’s and women’s basketball teams posted a pair of wins on the road against College of the Redwoods Saturday, Feb. 5, when the FRC men won 93-92, and the FRC women won 65-50.

In the men’s game, Feather River battled back from an 11-point deficit at halftime for a one-point win. Six FRC players scored in double figures.

Ross Vizcaino led the Golden Eagles with a career high of 24 points, including five 3-pointers.

A.J. Shepard distributed seven assists. His brother, Micah Shepard, and Ricky King each drained three 3-pointers.

In the women’s game, the freshman forwards and posts were the top scorers for Feather River.

Ne’Jae Jackson led the Golden Eagles with 17 points, five assists and three steals.

Ashley Dawkins and Kelly Hernandez each turned in a double double for Feather River. Dawkins totaled 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Hernandez claimed 13 points and 11 rebounds.

“It was a long and tough road trip to Eureka, but I got solid play out of my posts, and my guards did a nice job of getting them the ball,” said FRC coach Haley White. “Jackson led the way defensively and continues to be an offensive threat.”

The FRC men and women play their final home game of the season tonight, Feb. 16, against Butte College. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game following at 7:30 p.m.
