Golf Results for the week of 10/6/2010

Lake Almanor West
Our final play day of the year was Sept. 30. The game was Cha, Cha, Cha, which is one best ball on the first hole, two best balls on the second hole and three best balls on the third hole, then repeating throughout the course. Congratulations to Joyce Ayres, Karen DeMoe and Sharon Auge who made up the winning team. Karen DeMoe birdied #7. Lunch at the clubhouse was followed by a surprise baby shower for Kathi Shennan who is expecting her first granddaughter. It was a fun day for all.



Plumas Pines Women

Tuesday, Sept. 21, was “Feather River Play Day” with the Plumas Pines Women’s Golf Club. Guests from near and far were invited to play in the Best Ball format. The weather was warm and the camaraderie was obvious as the ladies headed out to play. Winners place in both Low Gross and Low Net. Winning Low Net was the team of Janet Holladay, Ginger Holladay-Houston, Jackie Luckey, and Connie Raheb. Winning Low Net was the team of Joni Gerbasi, Jan Pierce, Priscilla Piper, and Mary Peters (who was a blind draw), and second Low Net was won by the team of Jennifer Zumbro, Mary Peters, Suzi Jensen, and Michele Barry.
The following Tuesday, Sept. 28, the final Captain’s Cup was held. Players who qualified for this event in the prior months by winning either Low Gross or Low Net were Scooter Kidwell, Mary Stonebraker, Annie Meyer, Lucille Buchholtz, Janie Grosman, Toni Zunino, Renee Walker, Nancy Bartlett, and Jan Talbott as a first place substitute. The winner of the Captain’s Cup Final in the Low Gross Division was Janie Grosman, after a card-off with Annie Meyer who then placed second. In the Low Net Division, Jan Talbott took top honors with Renee Walker coming in second.
In conjunction with the Captain’s Cup Final, all other players played a Low Gross, Low Net, and Low Putts game. There were two flights. Winning in the First Flight was Janie Grosman for Low Gross with Annie Meyer winning Low Net, and in the Second Flight, Jan Talbott won Low Gross and Mary Blaylock won Low Net. Low Putts was won by Mary Peters. All players were to be commended for playing in high temperatures during the summer heat.
It doesn’t appear there were any chip-ins for the last two weeks. The pot should be a hefty one next Tuesday.
Wednesday, Oct. 6, the annual awards luncheon will be held to celebrate all winners, a new board, and the end of a great golf season. Applications for 2011 will be handed out and next year’s Invitational Committee will be announced.

Mt. Huff Wednesday Morning Scramble
The return of Indian summer to our valley brought out the golfers for the Mt. Huff Wednesday morning scramble. Before the day heated up too much, we brought in our two winning teams.
First place team members were: Gary Hughes, Mike Kearns, Norm Miller, and Loren Lindner.
In second place were: Ralph Cote, Wayne Sousa, Al Brubaker, and John Hackett,
There was no chip-in contest.
Norm Miller won closest to the pin.

Mt. Huff Thursday Night Scramble

The Thursday Night Scramble Sept. 30, was supposed to be the last, but since it is still light enough and the weather is so spectacular, we are going to try it at least one more time.
We had seven teams playing and having a ball. The team of David Smuts, Tom Gossett and Greg Stevens took first place with 5 under. The team of Jerry Hobbs, Gary Metzdorf, Dick Grace and Margie Joseph came in second after a chip-off with the team of Mike Beatty, Eric Johns, Robin Daun and Loren Linder. They both came in 3 under.
Tom Szupello had the longest drive, and David Smuts was closest to the pin.
Oct. 10, we are having a 10-10-10 Tournament. Call for information.
The trees are changing color and our course is in a truly spectacular spot, so come enjoy a little golf and a lot of nature.

Mt. Hough Golf Club
Mount Hough golf club was flurry of activity of Sunday Sept. 26 with their annual season ending tournament and dinner. Starting off the day with coffee and donuts, the teams were arranged and golfers were busy making side bets. A shotgun start four-person scramble was the format while the golfers enjoyed the sunny day.

The day ended with a wonderful barbecue dinner which included Virginia’s famous beans. The final even of the day was a general meeting and awarding of prizes.First place was Gary Hughes, David Smuts and Loren Linder. Second place was Mike Ingle, Cheryl Ingle, Dick Grace and Don Sheffield. Third place was Leo Ray, Jim Bryant and Ron Ridge. Long drive of the day was awarded to Michelle Violett and closest to the pin was Paul Violett. The meeting also congratulated and awarded season championships to Blake Roath for the men’s scratch, Leo Soroninski, men’s handicap and Margie Joseph for the women’s category.
The meeting also was the site for election of officers and for the new season they will be: president, David Smuts; vice president, Blake Roath; tournament director, Jared Pew; handicap chairman, Darel Joseph and secretary/treasurer, Margie Joseph.
