A 16-year-old Reno resident drowned in Lower Bucks Lake Sunday, Aug. 15, the third drowning this summer in the county. All the victims were under 30.
The Plumas County Sheriff's Office dispatch center received a call from Bucks Lake Fire reporting a possible drowning victim near Camp Timber Wolf around noon.
The caller reported the victim was still in the water and could not be located.
The sheriff's office, Search and Rescue, Forest Service, Bucks Lake Fire, and a Plumas District Hospital ambulance responded to the scene.
Search and Rescue located the general area of the victim with assistance from a K-9 unit. A search and rescue diver found the juvenile's body a few hours later.
A press release said, "It appears the victim was attempting to swim to a dock located approximately 200 feet from shore with another camper. The victim became exhausted and slipped beneath the surface of the water.
"The other camper attempted to help the victim but could not hold on and the victim slipped beneath the surface of the water.
"Several citizens scoured the lake and were could not locate the victim."
The case is currently under investigation by the Plumas County Sheriff's Office.
