Fire crews responded to at least five roadside spot fires along Highway 36 in Susanville.
July 26, 2010 — Lassen County fire personnel are responding to a fire near the junction between Highway 395 and Highway 36, which closed Highway 36 in both directions for a brief period. Law enforcement units were seen directing traffic in both directions as of 1 p.m. on Monday, July 26.
Heidi Perry McCourt with the Susanville Interagency Fire Center said the California Highway Patrol is currently trying to locate a vehicle that traveled along Highway 395 toward Susanville. The vehicle is allegedly dragging something that is kicking up sparks, causing fires along the vegetation on the side of the road. Perry-McCourt said it was unknown as to which direction the vehicle traveled once it drove past the Highway 395/ Highway 36 intersection.
CHP units are checking all possible highway routes the car could have traveled from the intersection, which is where the last set of fires were sparked.
