Mike Giro Lazzarino, 58

    Longtime Quincy area contractor Mike G. Lazzarino peacefully passed from this life with his family at his side following a valiant battle with cancer, Friday evening, May 28, 2010, at his residence in Quincy at the age of 58.
    Born in Oakland, to Frank and Mary (Centoni) Lazzarino Oct. 18, 1951, Mike was raised and educated in the San Francisco East Bay community of Alameda. He was a 1969 graduate of Alameda High School.
    Mike moved to Quincy following his high school graduation to study wildlife biology at Feather River College, fell in love with the area and never left.
    In 1976, he began an excavation contracting business that he operated until his passing, as well as owning and operating High Sierra Ready Mix from 1989 to 1994.
    While working as the caretaker of Paxton Lodge Mike met Corky Burkholder whose family had just purchased the lodge. This encounter led to the couple’s marriage in Reno, Nev., Dec. 18, 1976, and to this union one son was born.
    Mike's passion in life was his work; he enjoyed operating equipment, spending time in the outdoors motorcycle riding and four-wheeling with his jeep as well as trying to improve his beautiful home.
    In passing, Mike leaves his wife of 33 years, Corky, of Quincy; his son, Jesse, of Torrance; mother, Mary Lazzarino, of Quincy; along with a sister, Stephanie Lynch, and her husband, Ed, of Bakersfield.
    He is preceded in death by his father, Frank.
    A celebration of Mike's life will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel-Quincy.
