3/17/2010 - The Feather River College softball team opened up Golden Valley Conference play last Thursday, March 11, against Lassen College.

The Golden Eagles dominated the first game of the doubleheader behind the strong pitching of Erica Wieck.

In her first no-hitter at the college level, Wieck struck out 13 batters and walked only two.

"Erica was fantastic today," said coach Josh Taylor. "She had command of her fastball and got ahead of hitters all day."

The FRC Golden Eagles jumped on the scoreboard first, as Brittany Potter started the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning.

The scoring didn't stop there, as the Golden Eagles added four runs in the second inning, five in the third inning and three in the fourth inning.

Offensively, Feather River was led by Dani Ming (two hits and a walk), Leah Justice (two doubles), Brittany Potter (three hits, including two doubles and a home run), Chelsea Venable (three hits, including two doubles and a triple) and Alisha Perry (three hits).

Also contributing offensively with one hit each was Shelby Watts, Tess Oliphant and Wieck. Feather River went on to win the game 14-0.

Game two was similar to game one. Annalee Rubio also threw a no hitter, as she dominated the Cougars throughout the game.

Rubio was perfect, as she walked none while striking out eight. Rubio faced the minimum amount of hitters (15) on her way to a perfect game.

Offensively, the Golden Eagles were once again too much, as they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on Potter's ground ball to the short stop.

Ming once again led the attack, collecting four more hits in the second game, including a walk-off triple in the fifth inning.

Venable and Potter added two hits each, while Tess Oliphant, Kayla Rozelle, Alisha Perry and Wieck each collected one hit.

Feather River went on to win the game 8-0.

The Golden Eagles play a conference doubleheader at home against College of the Redwoods this Friday, March 19, at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
