The Chester High School ski and snowboard teams won three first places in slalom competition at Alpine Meadows Friday, Feb. 5.
The race was originally scheduled to be giant slalom, but it was changed at the last minute to slalom. Many of the racers brought their GS skis instead of their slalom skis, so they had to use their play skis for the races.
In the women's competition, Chester's Bailey Smith won first place overall and teammate Emily LaGroue took second. Bry Ward came in sixth and Ashley Broussard finished 12th.
The men's race was won by Chester's Moises McCulloch. Michael Pixler took fourth, Logan Hitt placed 16th and Natty Brockway finished 19th.
In the men's snowboard competition, Jesse Gorbet took first place for Chester and James Broussard finished fifth.
Claire Settlemire placed 15th in the women's snowboard division.
The week before, the Chester racers traveled to Boreal Jan. 29, where they competed in a makeup GS race and a slalom competition in the same day.
In the ski GS races, McCulloch won first place overall in the men's competition, and Smith took first place for Chester in the women's division.
Ward and Broussard took sixth and 12th, respectively, for Chester in the women's GS.
In the men's GS, Brockway came in ninth, Pixler placed 14th and Hitt finished 19th.
Gorbet took fourth for Chester in the men's snowboard GS, and Broussard came in eighth.
Settlemire finished ninth for Chester in the women's snowboard GS.

The Chester ski and snowboard teams will hold a Biscuit and Gravy breakfast Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Chester Elks Lodge on Main Street, from 7:30-11 a.m. Breakfast will include scrambled eggs, orange juice and coffee.
Tickets are $8 each, and all proceeds will go toward this year's state championships at Shasta.
