In their ongoing effort to secure the safety of both their employees and customers, the Quincy branch of Plumas Bank and the Plumas County Sheriff’s SWAT deputies will conduct a simulated bank hostage takeover tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 27 at around 5 p.m. So, if you happen to drive by and see the excitement, keep in mind it’s just a practice drill, nothing more.
moons closes for winter
Citing the soft economy, Moons, the restaurant somewhere Quincy, has closed for winter and, according to manager Christine Irving, should reopen this spring. They will continue to serve both the Lions Club and Soroptmist Club’s lunches and are available for special events and parties by request.
new fixed hours for thrift store
The volunteers at Fireside Thrift in Portola have established new, permanent hours for the store. Manager Linda Robertson said shoppers will find them open daily 10-4, closed on Sundays.

Ever stop to really think about what business you’re in? You’re in the Customer Service Business! After all, it is the customer who pays your salary. Not only are external customers important, but your internal customers (co-workers, other departments, or anyone else who depends on you) are as well.
Businesses are losing customers every day because they aren’t walking the customer service talk. Many businesses aren’t treating customers they way they say the will.
Remember, “walk the talk” service starts with the first few seconds of the first contact. You get only one shot at a good first impression. So, greet your customers warmly. Start phone contacts with: “Thank you for calling (company).” Start face-to-face contacts with “Welcome to (company).” Customers take their business where they feel welcomed and appreciated.
Consider one very successful business’s rather simple mission statement: “A place where employees want to work and customers want to support.”

homebuyers TAX CREDIT extended`
The federal tax credit for home buyers that the president signed into law recently was set to expire Nov. 30, but has been extended until Apr. 30, 2010. It was also expanded to include existing homeowners who have lived in their primary residences for five consecutive years out of the last eight years.
First-time homebuyers may still be eligible for a tax credit of up to $8,000, while existing homeowners may receive a credit of up to $6,500. The bill also increases the qualifying income limits, and taxpayers can claim the credit on purchases completed in 2010 on their 2009 income tax returns. Ask your Realtor for all the details.
