Plumas Schools open Tuesday and buses on normal schedule

January 19, 2010

6:00 a.m.

All schools in the Plumas Unified School District including Quincy, Greenville, Chester and Portola will start on time this morning.

Buses in some areas will be chained up and running at the maximum of 35 MPH allowed on the highways under chain restrictions. Students in those areas may notice small delays. Snow levels are predicted to range between 3000 feet to 4000 feet during the day, with heavy snow accumulations in the higher elevations.

As of 6:00 a.m. many parts of Plumas County were under R1 Chain restrictions where chains are required on all commercial vehicles (trucks or buses). All other vehicles (cars, pick-ups, vans, etc.) must have either snow tread tires or chains on the drive axle

Chains or snow tires are required from 10 miles east of Quincy to 8 miles west of Blairsden (Plumas Co) at Lee Summit all the way to 395 at Hallelujah Jct.

Chains or snow tires are required from Greenville to Canyon Dam.

Chains or snow tires are required from 4 miles west of Mineral (Tehama Co) to 9 miles west of Susanville (Lassen Co)

Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from 6 miles east of Westwood to 10 miles west of Susanville (Lassen Co)  over Fredonyer Summit.

Highway 70 is closed in the Feather River Canyon due to a rock slide.
