 100 YEARS AGO....1909
    We offer an apology to our readers outside of Quincy for the newspaper reaching them a day late of the last issue. The delay was caused by a break in the newspaper press and the holiday.
    George Donnenwirth was here in Quincy early in the week with a head of turkeys. He sold 40 of these birds, many of them bringing in as much as $2.50 each.

75 YEARS AGO….1934
    Advertisement: Wine for your Thanksgiving dinner: 65¢ a quart or $1.95 a gallon at Quincy Drug Store.
    Advertisement: Thanksgiving dinner suggestions available from City Market in Portola: oyster cocktail sauce 25 cents a jar, cranberry sauce 19¢ a can, pickled watermelon 52 cents, fruit cake mixture 45 cents.

50 YEARS AGO….1959
    Advertisement: Grocery store advertised specials for Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings: turkey 41¢ a pound, cranberry sauce 20¢, yams 10¢ a pound, bunch of celery 10¢, marshmallows 25¢, Best Food mayonnaise 59¢ a quart, yellow onions 5¢ a pound, jello 7¢ package.

30 YEARS AGO….1979
    Advertisement: Featured grocery items at local grocery stores for Thanksgiving dinner: Turkey 59¢ a pound, cranberry sauce 39¢, yams 25¢ a pound, potatos 10 pounds for 69¢, pumpkin pie $2.19, mince pie 2.59.
    Advertisement: Due to public request Log Cabin Restaurant in Portola will remain open for Thanksgiving. Menu choice: turkey or baked ham dinner $6.95, roast beef dinner $7.95, lobster thermidor $8.95.
    Advertisement: Thanksgiving feast at St. Bernard Lodge—smoked barbequed turkey or ham $8.95.
