Portola’s girls basketball team had a fantastic weekend Dec. 12 – 14. The Lady Tigers got to stay home to participate in the annual Tiger Classic; Portola took on each opponent it faced to come out with three more wins.
The first day the Tigers brought down Modoc 51-37. The next day of the tournament Portola struggled a bit more, but broke out with a 33-30 win. On the final day of the tournament, the Tigers beat their rival Quincy 58-39. At time of writing, Portola’s girls team is undefeated with a 7-0 record.
In addition to losing to Portola, Quincy also lost its other two games of the tournament. The Trojans lost 55-35 to Loyalton the first day of the tournament, and 49-38 the second day.
“We played better at times against Portola, but couldn’t maintain the game,” commented Quincy’s coach, Harlon Savier. “We’re just not jelling yet. We aren’t dealing with the pressure.”
Portola will travel to Burney this weekend for its last tournament before league play. The Trojans will head to Hamilton City for their last tournament before league play.
