Quincy held its annual Quincy Tip-Off Classic on Dec. 5 – 7 and six teams participated in the basketball tournament, including Portola. Quincy and Portola both went through some growing pains during the tournament, losing two games apiece.
Quincy started the tournament on solid ground, beating Excel Christian 63-48. The next day the Trojans took on White Pine and narrowly lost 63-59. On the final day of the Tip-Off, Quincy was devastated 70-40 by Dixon.
Ty Morrison contributed greatly to Quincy. Morrison sank seven three-pointers in the game against White Pine. Brady Rick was Quincy’s other main contributor and was even named all-tournament for the weekend.
Portola had similar luck, with Excel Christian being the only team it beat. The Tigers first lost 48-46 to Etna in a heart-pounding game that went back and forth. The next day the Tigers beat Excel Christian 58-41. The Tigers played White Pine Dec. 7, losing 80-38.
Both teams will play in the Tiger Classic tournament in Portola this weekend. The tournament starts Thursday and runs through Saturday.
