The Feather River College women’s basketball team played its first home game of the season against Yuba College on Nov. 26. The Golden Eagles defeated Yuba 76-63 in a game the Eagles clearly had control of for its entirety.

FRC gained an early lead in the first few minutes. The Eagles pushed their lead to 38-24 at the half.

The first 10 minutes of the second half was when Feather River really took off. The Eagles quickly extended their lead to 55-30 before Yuba started making a comeback. FRC held Yuba off enough for the win.

“I thought we played very well for 34 minutes,” explained FRC’s coach Haley White. “Then we got complacent a bit and rushed some shots and made a couple of bad decisions that could have been costly against a better team. We had a great crowd and it was a fun environment to play in.”

Amy Yeager was the Eagles’ top scorer with 22 points. Yeager sank eight baskets, which included six three-pointers. Defensively Yeager snatched four rebounds and stole the ball twice.

Ashley Hibbard was the team’s next high-scorer with 13 points. Hibbard made one three-pointer and three two-pointers. She nabbed three steals.

The only other FRC player to score in the double digits was Summer Dressier. Dressier made five field goals, including one three-pointer. Dressier also made one free throw and got three steals.

The victory improved FRC’s record to 2-5. The Eagles will start their conference play Jan. 8, 2014.
