Highway 70, about five miles west of the Highway 89 junction near Paxton, re-opened to one-way controlled traffic at 1:55 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

One lane is open as workers try to clean up debris from a tractor-trailer that crashed at 10:10 a.m. According to the CHP, the big-rig was up-righted and moved to the side of the road.

The tractor-trailer, which was carrying scrap metal to Oakland, jack-knifed and rolled onto its side. The toppled big rig blocked both lanes of traffic and spread its cargo over the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle was reportedly transferred to Plumas District Hospital with unknown injuries.

The CHP reported the driver and truck were from Newhall. The driver was reportedly reaching for a soda and drove the truck off the road and into the hillside, causing the accident.

A Hazmat team was on the scene because some of the big rig’s diesel fuel was leaking from the vehicle.
