Golf Results for the week of 10/18/2013
Whitehawk Ranch Ladies Golf Club
Oct. 1, 2013
Today the golfing ladies of Whitehawk enjoyed a chilly fall afternoon inside. Cuccia’s did a great job and was a perfect venue for our members to come together for our annual Awards Luncheon.
Our captain, Patty McNamara, helped to make it the success it was with decorations, organization, and warmth. This year she and Toni Dick invited Delicia Martinetti to come speak to our group. She is the coordinator for the Plumas Rural Services, Domestic Violence Services located in Quincy.
She explained their valuable services and stated their continuing needs from the community at large. Patty and Toni presented her with a donation of $1,000 to help their worthy cause. Our ladies group was proud to be able to use half the proceeds from our raffle and auction that took place at our Invitational this year. This half was split between Plumas Eureka State Park Assoc. and now Plumas Rural Services.
Jean Schultz did a fantastic job this year as our Tournament Chair. Today she acknowledged all of our members and participation and then specifically winners of the tourneys and other competitions. We applauded Patty McNamara and Barbara Competello for Gross and Net wins for the Ace of Aces. Hands together for the winner of the Eclectic competition who was Jean Schultz, followed by Denise Stein, Diane Romig and Arline Simpson. Pats on the back for our Most Improved Player, Laurie McKenzie. Birdies were acknowledged. There were 69 of them on Ladies’ Days this season.
At the top of the list was Patty McNamara who had an awesome 12 birdies. Each birdie maker received $2 per birdie. Captain’s Cup trophies were presented to first Chris Hyatt and second Mary Ann Crowe, and the Club Champ Marica Zeigler was handed her trophy as was a very close runner up, Patty McNamara. Kudos to all of them for competitive and diligent golfing.
We certainly applauded those winning the competitions, but more than that we applauded all of those who participated each week and contributed to the fun and tried their best to rise to the challenge of this game called golf. What a beautiful place to do that, Whitehawk Ranch. We are already looking forward to the season in 2014.

Graeagle Meadows Women’s Turd Tournament
On Thursday, Oct. 10, the Graeagle Meadows Women's Golf Club held its annual Turd Tournament. The tournament, the last of the year, is played after the fairways have been plugged, leaving "mud turds" on the course.
The tournament is both an individual low net, and a best two balls of the foursome, and is played from tees that are partly the Red/Green Combo Tees plus special tees on some holes set at the 200-yard marker.
Each hole is either a trick hole or a treat hole. On trick holes you may be required to tee off with an iron (instead of a driver), add a stroke to your score, or some other unhelpful requirement. On treat holes, you may be instructed to subtract a stroke from your score, tee off from the 200-yard marker, enjoy a sweet treat on the tee box or some other helpful requirement.
Members of all local women's golf clubs are invited to join the fun each year, for which golf course management provides a special reduced rate for non-members.
The 2013 Turd Queen is Linda Bilger, who shot an astounding net 58. The winning teams in the 4-person best ball event were: first low net, Gail Arterburn, Ellen Fearing, Priscilla Piper and Gloria Verner with a net 108; second low net (in a "card off") Karen Fraser, Gail Nelson, Judy Porep-Lullo and Mary Stonebraker also with a net 108; and, third low net, Jennifer Baker, Barb Crist, Jane Polson and Bev Reynolds with a net 109. In the closest to the pin contest, Maureen Ford took first place, and Bev Reynolds took second place.
Play was followed by a delicious luncheon in the clubhouse restaurant. The theme for the tournament was Halloween, with the clubhouse beautifully decorated, and both players and restaurant employees dressing in the spirit of the theme. We wish everyone fairways and greens, in golf and in life, through the winter.
