Hough Complex Morning Update 8/22/2013

The Plumas National Forest has provided the following update on the Hough Complex:


Status: Resources:

Acres Burned: 545 Crews: 9

Cause: Lightning Engines: 51

Date Started: August 18, 2013 Helicopters: 1

Containment: 40% Air Tankers: 0

Expected Containment: Aug. 24, 2013 Total Resources Assigned: 424

Current Fire Situation: The Heights and Ridge Fires were determined to be the same fire with an approximate acreage of 275 and 10% containment. The Johnson, remains at 89 acres with 95% containment. The Hunt increased to 21 acres and is 100% containment. The Keddie, at 18 acres, the Mountain and the Ruby at 1 acre each are 100% contained. The 32 and Cook, both under an acre are also 100% contained. A new fire, the Evans at 15 acres and is 0% contained. The change in size, locations and percentages of containment of the fires are due to more accurate mapping. Several new start occurred from the lightning yesterday, most of which were contained. More information on the new starts will be available on the evening update.

Evacuations: All evacuations have been lifted.

Threats: 90 Residential structures, 10 commercial properties and 125 outbuildings are threatened near the town of Taylorsville.

Remarks: The increase in acreage was due to the results of an infrared flight from last night. The increase includes the growth of the Ridge/Height Fire caused by the strong winds produced from the storm that passed through the area yesterday as well as the new starts. As stated earlier, more on the new starts will be provided on the evening update.

The community meeting last evening was well attended and residents’ concerns were addressed by officials of Central Coast Interagency Incident Management Team 7.

Limited fire activity was observed overnight due to cool temperatures and higher humidity. Good progress was made on the fires.
