The Plumas County voting precinct in Paxton was abolished this week when the Plumas County Board of Supervisors voted to consolidate it with the Keddie precinct. The population of Paxton has declined to just a few persons since the copper mine at Engelmine was closed.
50 YEARS AGO..........1963
When the California State Fair opens next week in Sacramento, Plumas County will be represented by displaying an exhibit booth telling the benefits and the story of the local sugar pine tree and will have sugar pine products on display for fair goers.
25 YEARS AGO..........1988
One of the heaviest downpours in memory blew through Plumas Count last week, causing power outages, flooding and starting a host of small lightening- caused fires.
10 YEAR AGO..........2003
Lightning sparked six fires in the Chilcoot area last week burning several thousand acres of land in Plumas and Lassen Counties. The Mart Fire was the largest in the Chilcoot complex, evacuating 15 acres and burning 5,425 acres.
