Emergency responders prepare to transfer an injured motorcycle rider to Plumas District Hospital following an accident that occurred at 8:47 a.m. Thursday, July 11, on Highway 70 about 2 miles west of Quincy. The motorcyclist, Salvatore Monforte, 55, of Tahoe City, suffered a broken leg after colliding with a car while traveling westbound. Monforte was riding with his brother, Dan Monforte, who was on another motorcycle, when a 1997 Mercury Sable driven by Jeanette Lee Thatcher, of Fernley, Nev., made a U-turn from the north shoulder of the highway in front of Monforte. “It really could have been a lot worse,” Dan Monforte said. “A broken leg feels like a treat right now.” Sal Monforte was awake and alert as he was transported to the hospital. Thatcher was cited by the California Highway Patrol for making an unsafe U-turn. Photo by Dan McDonald
