The Giving Back Golf Tournament, supporting the Wounded Warrior Project, was held June 23 at the Mt. Huff Golf Course. With clouds looming over the day, 48 golfers were ready to tee off for America’s wounded warriors.
Starting the morning off was a pitching and putting contest. With many entries, Barry Colagrossi won the pitching contest and Mike Ingle won the putting contest.
At the end of the tournament there were two teams with a seven or under, so a chip-off contest decided the winning team.
First place went to David Smuts, Jeff Stevens, Gary Hughs and Dan Rooney. Second place was claimed by Don Sheffield, Ralph Cote, Gary Metzdorf and Robert McIlroy. The team of Richard Dalton, Doyle Rolston, Ken Roby and Ryan Foote took third place.
The Giving Back tournament was a qualifier round for the 2013 “Big Tournament,” so the 12 mentioned earlier are now qualified for the next round in Temecula.
The award for the longest drive went to Smuts. Most accurate went to Carol Metzdorf and closest to the pin went to Bruce Walker. Participants send a big thank you to all the golfers and donors for the great tournament.
