75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    Construction of the Plumas- Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative’s new electrical system will proceed this month when weather and ground conditions permit. The system will consist of 229 miles of line and will serve nearly 700 customers in the Mohawk and Sierra Valleys located in both Plumas and Sierra Counties and Honey Lake in Lassen County. The project will take approximately four months.

    Plumas County jail prisoners will be fed hereafter by the restaurants of Quincy. Mrs. McNab, who has cooked for the prisoners for the past four years, has resigned her position, so the restaurants will alternate in serving meals.

50 YEARS AGO..........1963

    Sales of the Paul Sobrero Ranch and the 400 acre Pecks Valley Ranch, both located in the Greenville area, were announced today.

    The new 14,653 square foot Safeway Store will be constructed on the corner of Main, Lawrence and East Streets in Quincy, The 95 by 140 foot building will be of rustic design with a stained redwood exterior and a gabled roofline.

25 YEARS AGO..........1988

    The Union Pacific Railroad caboose that was donated to the Quincy Chamber of Commerce was relocated this week by Sierra Pacific Industries in Quincy to its new permanent location at Pioneer Park in East Quincy.

10 YEARS AGO..........2003

    The Plumas County Clerks office has been partially reimbursed by the state of California for the $300,000 Accuvote touch screen voting machines that were implemented in January of 2001.Plumas County was the first county in the state to receive the modern voting equipment.
