75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    Advertisement: George T. Thompson Hotels assure you a happier visit in San Francisco. The Maurice and Canterbury Hotels: $2.50 per night and the Drake Wilshire Hotel: $2.00 per night.

    A old time snow show race utilizing old style longboard skis vs. modern, shorter hardwood skis that was to be held Sunday at Johnsville was cancelled due to stormy weather. An $80.00 purse was offered and posted for the winner by the Plumas County Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the races.The races will be re-scheduled.

50 YEARS AGO..........1963

    Wells Fargo Bank expects to open a branch in Quincy by April in temporary quarters while plans are being made for a permanent location.

    Tentative plans for the closure of schools at Grays Flat and Sloat were made by the Plumas Unified School District governing board this week.

25 YEARS AGO..........1988

    Eastern Plumas County Board of Supervisor Leonard Ross announced that he will not run again for that office he has held for the last 15 years.

    Having defeated a lawsuit brought by Friends of Sierra Valley, Sierra Pacific Industries intends to proceed with the construction of a 14 megawatt electrical co-generation plant at its Loyalton lumber mill.

10 YEARS AGO..........2003

    Weather permitting, the Department of Fish & Game will discharge a detonation cord in Lake Davis today as part of the continuing efforts to control and contain the invasive and predatory Northern Pike fish population within the 4,000 acre lake. A management plan was started three years ago and since then 25,000 pike have been removed from the lake.
