Agenda 21 coming to Chester on March 6

The Chester Memorial Hall will be the location for the latest round of Agenda 21 discussion.

The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. and is open to all interested people in the greater Lake Almanor Basin and throughout Plumas County.

The guest speaker will be Carol Viscarra, of Taylorsville. Chester resident Fay Almond said Viscarra would be delivering a PowerPoint presentation, as she did during a Jan. 17 Plumas County Planning Commission meeting and again during the Feb. 5 Board of Supervisors meeting.

Viscarra is an advocate for property rights and is concerned that the county’s general plan closely mirrors the Agenda 21 document adopted in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Chester Memorial Hall is located on the corner of Gay and Stone streets in Old Town Chester.

Will there be equal time given for reasonable people to speak? I wish people spent more time listening in science class than listening to glen beck and fox news. The tea party is a real problem at the local level. I can't be a republican anymore. Moving on to the 21st century with facts.

On the right, they think the UN is evil. On the left, they think corporations are evil. They are both wrong. If you are a reasonable, centered person with an education, please go to public meetings and speak up. The extremes are wasting our time and money. Math, science, facts and data.

Lefties do NOT believe most corporations are evil,though some clearly are. They are in business to make money,lots of money. As such, their regard for the environment,long term economic growth and human life are not always top priorities. Look into the history of the Hudson River as a prime example.

So,those who believe in no Government regulation somehow missed the memo that we are the Goverment and have the responsibility to preserve, sustain and nurture the world in which we live. Of course that is a difficult task, but relentless,paranoid viewpoints(Ms Viscarra) just impede progress.

Well, Mr. Messenger, it's just one of those things. Just because I"own"property, I do not have the right to rape it. There just is no accounting for bad taste,until now. Communities have the right and obligation to limit the amount of damage that can be done to the look and feel of their community.

Because of the snow and a 3 hour round trip drive, I will not be at the meeting tonight. I really want to go because I have some important questions to ask. Any way I can get ahold of the presenter or someone else? Please let me know..
