These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:
  • Deputy shooting fallout: The children of a Portola man who was shot and killed at Eastern Plumas Health Care last year are seeking millions of dollars in damages.
  • The trout must go: The state is planning to pull all of the brook trout out of a Plumas County lake in order to protect the yellow-legged frog.
  • Inspections delayed: Cal Fire was scheduled to begin property inspections this week, but decided to wait until the public could better understand what the inspectors are doing.

Graeagle resident Michael Clawson creates unique photos using his iPhone. This photo, “On Other Worlds, Deer Roam Free,” was selected for the Macworld/iWorld 2013 Digital Art Gallery. Clawson snapped the image of the deer near the Graeagle Frost-tee, using the High Dynamic Range setting. It allowed him to capture two images, one image for highlights and one image for shadows, and then merge them together for a more dynamic photo. He then imported that photo into an iPhone program called LensLight, which allows for lighting effects and overlays — in this case, an image of Saturn. He made the final adjustments in an iOS program called Snapseed, and voilá, Saturn is looming over Graeagle deer. Clawson will be speaking at Macworld about creative iPhone photo editing Feb. 2 in San Francisco. Photo by Michael Clawson
