A Battle Mountain, Nev., man was seriously injured after he lost control of his Ford F-250 truck and crashed on Highway 89 near Dixie Canyon Rd. on Friday night.

Samual Brown, 21, suffered upper-body injuries, including head and arm fractures, after his truck struck a guard rail and veered into a rock embankment about 8:30 p.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Brown was arrested at the scene on a charge of driving under the influence.

Brown was transported to Seneca Hospital and later transferred to Enloe Hospital in Chico.

According to family members, Brown’s injuries included a fractured skull broken facial bones. He reportedly underwent surgery Saturday and was still in the hospital’s intensive care unit on Sunday, Dec. 9.

A driver who was following the northbound Brown told the CHP that Brown was traveling about 50 miles per hour when his truck drifted off the right side of the road.

The witness said Brown turned sharply to the left and then sharply right, causing the truck to hit the railing.

The truck then traveled out of control across both lanes and struck a rock wall. The force of the impact caused the truck to spin and come to a stop facing south in the southbound lane.

Brown was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the CHP report.

Brown’s accident happened just two days after a 19-year-old Taylorsville woman lost control of her car on the same highway and plunged into Indian Creek.
