Sierra Valley Grange celebrated its sixth birthday at its meeting Wednesday night. The Sierra Valley Grange was organized November 11, 1931.
A building used as a temporary forest fire lookout on Argentine Rock at the head of Squirrel Creek was strewn over the mountainside by a high wind last week.
50 YEARS AGO..........1962
President John F. Kennedy has signed into law the following moderate postal rate increases, effective January 1963. First class mail from four cents to five cents and airmail from seven cents to eight cents.
25 YEARS AGO..........1987
Christmas trees are becoming big business in the Plumas National Forest. In the past two years, more than 12,000 individuals have obtained permits to cut a family tree in the Plumas National Forest. Cutting season of holiday trees is November 2 through December 6. Each family is allowed to cut two trees and must be within ten feet tall.
Plumas County District Attorney Tom Buckwalter was dismissed from prosecuting the leader of a Catholic splinter group, the Plumas County Tridentine Latin Rite Church, but instead will be prosecuted by the State Attorney General’s office.
10 YEARS AGO..........2002
Over 2,200 jury duty notices were sent out to potential jurists to sit on the Plumas County Court murder trial of Raindancer Dickey-O’Brien. He has been in Plumas County jail since July of 2000, has plead guilty and is being tried for the alleged murder and robbery of Mark Levitoff of Westwood.
The director of the Plumas County Department of Alcohol & Drug Bob Minert resigned effective next month after 18 months with the program.
