Guy Hinrichs of Quincy placed 12th in the Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival weigh-off with his 1,115.5-pound Cucurbita maxima Atlantic giant pumpkin Oct. 6. Although Hinrichs didn’t win one of the top prizes in the 18th annual festival, he beat his personal goal of breaking a thousand pounds. The festival’s winning pumpkin weighed an astounding 1,630.5 pounds and earned its owner $9,783. This is the third year Hinrichs has entered the contest. He won $100 for his giant pumpkin.Photo submitted
