75 YEARS AGO..........1937

    The Plumas National Forest this week started planting 50 miles of trees: Ponderosa and Jeffrey pines extending 50 miles located on the Feather River Middle Fork  slopes of Meadow Valley where fires years ago destroyed all forest trees.

    Art students at Plumas County schools are working on sketches for the new Kilpatric Grocery Store trademark. The contest, in which cash prizes are offered, is expected to furnish the store with a company design that can be used as a trademark for newspaper advertising and general public recognition.

50 YEARS AGO....,.,.,..1962

    The Plumas County exhibit at the California State Fair won first place and garnered $1600 in the lumber/forestry category this week. The exhibit depicted the story of the Christmas tree complete with a lighted cabin in the woods and Santa Claus.

25 YEARS AGO...........1987

    Sierra Pacific Industries is donating logs to replace the 20 year old log constructed gateway recently removed at the entrance of the Plumas County fairgrounds. The new gate will be the third since the original white fir gate was erected in the early 1950's. The second gate was built by Meadow Valley Logging Company in 1967.

10 YEARS AGO........2002

    The real Hollywood star Lassie was the star of the High Sierra Animal Rescue grand opening celebration September 28. He came with his handler Bob Weatherwax from Southern California for the event.

    Plumas County Public Health Agency confirmed a case of bacterial meningitis involving a four month old child who attended the Northern Sierra Indian Days event at Greenville High School last month. The infant was treated at U.C . Davis Medical facility and responded well to antibiotics.

    Feather River Inn is re-doing the golf course there for the safety of golfers. The new golf course will have nine holes on the north side of the highway eliminating the holes located across the highway which golfers needed to negotiate to continue to play.
