High flows on the North Fork Feather River October 4

Feather Publishing
10/2/2012

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will increase water flows for one day on October 4 in the Belden Reach of the North Fork of the Feather River in Plumas County, the company announced today.

The higher flows are necessary to accommodate the shutdown of Belden powerhouse while work is done on two high-voltage transmission lines.

PG&E will increase flows in the Belden Reach from the seasonal normal flow of about 70 cubic feet per second and will gradually increase flows by no more than half a foot an hour until flows reach about 400 cfs. Later that day, PG&E will gradually decrease flows, returning to 70 cfs at about midnight.

The Belden Reach can easily accommodate increased flows up to around 2,000 cfs, which occurs during wet years.

The Belden Reach is the 8-mile portion of the North Fork of the Feather River in the Plumas National Forest between PG&E’s Belden Dam and the confluence of the North Fork of the Feather River and the East Branch of the Feather River near Highway 70.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation (NYSE:PCG), is one of the largest combined natural gas and electric utilities in the United States.  Based in San Francisco, with over 20,000 employees, the company delivers some of the nation’s cleanest energy to 15 million people in Northern and Central California.  For more information, visit http://www.pge.com/about/newsroom/ and www.pgecurrents.com
