Sierra Valley Special Apprentice Hunt Application Deadline Extended
The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) has extended the application deadline for two upcoming junior pheasant hunts. Applicants now have until Monday, Oct. 4 to apply for two Game Bird Heritage Special Apprentice Hunts to be held Sat., Oct. 16 at Headwaters Honker Preserve in Plumas County.

Public comment needed on new courthouse location
Quincy Supervisor Lori Simpson called a meeting Tuesday, Sept. 21, to let the public comment on the factors they want considered in site selection for the new courthouse.
Throughout the meeting it was apparent Simpson’s impression coming into the event was that no consensus could be reached among the public because “a lot of people have different wishes.”

Belly up: FRC hatchery suffers mass die-off
Feather River College’s fish hatchery is the latest victim of budget woes, with a staff stretched to capacity and then some. When the word got out that hatchery manager Zach Parks had lost 49,900 of his recent delivery of 50,000 Department of Fish and Game fingerling (6-inch) trout, and had also lost four out of seven 15- to 20-year-old sturgeon, rumors started flying, and fingers started pointing.

League hosts host of forums
The League of Women Voters of Plumas County will host several forums for residents to learn more about the candidates and propositions on the November ballot.
The last day to register for the general election is Oct. 18.

Runoff candidates Jon Kennedy and Richard Lundy will meet and answer questions from local voters.
