Words & Music season begins

Words & Music returns from its traditional summer break with three October evening programs scheduled around the county.

First up is the Quincy Words & Music Thursday, Oct. 14, at Morning Thunder Café with featured artist Andrew Ohren.

In Portola Friday, Oct. 22, at The Feather Community Art Center featured musicians are Penny and Dude Berry.

Finishing up the month will be Jeff Ellermeyer as the featured musician Thursday, Oct. 28, in Chester at the Coffee Station.

Photo bloggers are boosting Plumas County tourism

The promotion of Plumas County’s fall foliage has attracted unprecedented numbers of visitors and inquiries this year, but there’s been an additional benefit, thanks to technology. The changing leaves have been attracting more and more photographers and photo clubs who post their pictures online via websites, blogs and Facebook, thereby adding to the viral marketing effort.

Burn ban rescinded

Effective Friday, Oct. 8 at 8 a.m., the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Lassen-Modoc-Plumas Unit has rescinded the suspension on all burning on State Responsibility Area Lands within Lassen, Modoc and Plumas Counties.  Burn permits are not required until May 1, 2011.
